- The height your mower is cutting at and how sharp your blades are is more important than a lot of people think. With spring just around the corner now is the time to service your lawn mower so it is performing at it's best.
- Reel mowers in particular have to be sharpened (or ground) at least once a year - twice a year is preferred. This keeps the reel to base plate sharp which will give you a cleaner cut.
- It is important to clean your reel mower after every mow as the moisture and acids in the grass clippings left on the blades is very corrosive and will shorten the life of the reel. So wash the clippings off the mower, spin the reel dry and lightly spray with CRC or similar product.
- Setting the cut of a reel mower is also important. Be sure not to tighten one side of the reel tighter than than the other. This causes uneven wear on the base plate and will require it to be replaced sooner than expected.
- Rotary mowers cut by impact - that is the speed of the blade hitting the leaf of the grass. If the blade is blunt or dull you will get tearing of the leaf instead of a clean cut which can leave an unsightly finish to the lawn.
TSL offer a maintenance service on your mower that will have it cutting your turf perfect every time. We also recommend and supply high quality ride on and pedestrian mowers.
